Seniors Week 2010

Seniors Week 2010 is being held from Sunday 31 October to 7 November 2010. During Seniors Week a number of events are being held to celebrate the contribution of seniors to the community.

 

Bendigo Bank Seniors Week Community Grants 

Bendigo Bank Seniors Week is a special time of celebration for Western Australian Seniors. During this week a range of events and activities are held to acknowledge seniors in the community.

COTA WA, in partnership with the Department of Communities and LotteryWest, invites local government and community organisations to apply for funding to host events and activities held as part of Bendigo Bank Seniors Week 2010. Grants of up to $1,000 (plus GST if applicable) are available as a contribution toward the of holding events. Events funded by the program should meet at least one of the aims of Bendigo Bank Seniors Week; 

  • Recognise and thank seniors for their contribution to the community;
  • Challenge negative stereotypes and present a positive image of ageing;
  • Promote the life course approach to ageing well. This invoves encouraging individual to make decision and take actions ate every stage in their life that will optimise their health and wellbeing into later life.

Applications are strongly encouraged for events which target seniors who;

  • Would not normally participate in Bendigo Bank Seniors Week events;
  • Are at risk of becoming socially isolated; or
  • Are members of Indigenous or Culturally Linguistically Diverse Communities.

WA Seniors Week Awards

Do you know an inspirational Seniors? Why not show your appreciation by nominating them for a WA Seniors Award?

These awards, conducted by the Department of Communities, recognise groups and individuals contributing to volunteering or community organisations, working with children and young people under 25, or working towards good mental health.

This year there are 5 categories, with the The Burswood Senior of the Year being selected from one of the first three categories;

  • Community Award
  • Intergenerational Award
  • beyondblue Inspiration Award for Wellbeing
  • Westcheme / Council on the Ageing Champion for Seniors Award
  • Bendigo Bank Active Ageing Leadership Award
